Yalada

My name is Maria Tusa Douglas

I am an Australian woman and mother of Wakka Wakka, Waanyi and Sicilian heritage living and working on GuguYelanji country in FNQ. I was born and raised in Brisbane and have lived a miraculous life of discovery through embracing everyone, education and the maintenance of my relationship with our creator. Unbroken Indigenous connection to country is a living affirmation of "connection to all things" on a cellular level. My Waanyi and Wakka Wakka existence taught me this and I would like to share it with you.

OUR ORIGINS

Turtles Totems Text

Turtle Yarns emerged from the founder and creative leads' relationship with our environment. In particular, her Totem "Turtle". Traversing "The Struggle" "Systemic Racism" and  "Domestic, State and National Violence",  Maria found spiritual guidance, support and direction from her relationship with Turtles. Yarning with Turtles taught Maria how to see what is important, stay focused and share her Yarns with others.

Much of our First Nations Australian History has been written and taught by Whitefellas. Turtle Yarns offers Aboriginal Books conceptualised, written and published by Aboriginal people. Its all good and its all Blackfella perspective.

Turtle Yarns pays its respects to the Gugu Yelandji peoples, Elders and Ancestors and thanks them for maintaining their ongoing connection with their lands, seas, waters and skies.

Turtle Yarns online store, offers books and exceptional customer service to shoppers from the comfort of their own homes.
